Comme des Garcons Converse Review: The Cool Sneaker that has been around since 1914
Comme des Garçons Converse, my favorite sneaker, resulted from a collaboration between New York graphic artist Filip Pagowski and Rei Kawakubo. The end product resulted in an iconic sneaker that never seems out of style.
They have a great vintage look and are funky, playful, and comfortable. HSPs will love this sneaker.
PROS
- Extremely comfortable
- Great vintage, funky look
CONS
- Unisex sizing can be confusing
- Not for a long day of walking
There's a Great History Behind Converse
Converse has been “in” since being introduced in 1917. Originally called the Converse Rubber Shoe Company, it sold “non-skids” as the first athletic shoe aimed at basketball players. However, they took off when Chuck Taylor joined the company sales team in 1921.
When researching this article, I did not know the history behind the white high-top model. Chuck Taylor designed the white high-top Converse with patriotic red and blue trim for the 1936 Olympics.
Then, during World War II, he served as a captain in the Air Force and coached basketball teams to boost the troops' morale. He had them wear the high-top, and soon all the GIs exercised in them. They became the official sneaker of the United States Armed Forces—an incredible history to have behind a shoe.
The Converse shoe has always remained popular despite how fashion has changed dramatically since its introduction. It has had to compete with an ever-expanding athletic shoe industry, yet it's still here. No matter your age, someone in your circle has a pair of Converse.
Although I love the style of Converse and the fact that they go with everything, they were not the most comfortable shoes after wearing them all day.
They didn't have much arch support and cushion, so I would add an insole to make them more comfortable.
When I saw the $150 price tag of the Comme des Garcons Converse, I thought that was ridiculous.
As I read through the reviews on the shoes, everyone commented on how comfortable they were and the enhanced cushioning. So, I bought a pair of high tops in white.
Exploring the Versatility of the Comme des Garçons Converse: Perfect for HSPs and Everyday Wear”
Comfort is key when finding the perfect pair of sneakers as a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP). These sneakers not only exude timeless coolness but also offer a level of comfort that is not an exaggeration. I feel like I am walking on clouds if the original one barely had any cushioning; this one makes up for it.
One of the highlights of the Comme des Garçons Converse is their versatility. Whether you need shoes for work or a weekend trip, they are the perfect choice. They effortlessly complement formal clothing and your everyday jeans, allowing you to style them however you prefer.
With these sneakers in your wardrobe, packing for a trip becomes a breeze – they are versatile enough to be worn in any setting.
Please note that these shoes are comfortable for a few hours and unsuitable for extended walks or hikes. I wore them during a trip to Muir Woods in California, and my feet were killing me by the end of the day. It is super comfortable, but only for casual walking.
I only buy from familiar stores, as many fakes are sold online; I purchased mine from Nordstrom. I kept checking until they had restocked; it was only a few weeks. They are worth the $150 price as they go with everything.
In conclusion, the Comme des Garçons Converse combines comfort, style, and functionality, making it an ideal choice for HSPs and anyone seeking a reliable and fashionable pair of sneakers. With their enhanced cushioning and exceptional versatility, these shoes will surely be a reliable companion for any occasion. Invest in the Comme des Garçons Converse and enter a world of comfort and style.
